Navigator of the Amazon

Colombian Government Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications

The Amazon Region of Colombia is one of the most beautiful and inhospitable areas of the country, a region with difficult land access in which water is the main mode of life and communication for its inhabitants, among of which are a high number of indigenous citizens. Navigator of the Amazon was launched in 2009,a boat, the only feasible way to reach this population, had the purpose of including this population in the growing world of Information Technology and the Internet and thus narrowing the digital divide, educating this population on ICTs.

The ship covered 15 regions of Rio Putumayo and The Amazon, promoting and educating populations using technologies as well as collecting community experiences resulting from the use of ICTs in a boat with trainers and with 20 computers with full Network access, creating digital citizens, the indigenous population being the main target of the campaign.
